They did it again. I have the Yellostone & Grand Teton Compass guide, and this one is every bit as good. I hope they keep producing these guides for all our national parks. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT!! The knowlede presented in these guides is very comprehensive, easy to find and understand, the photos, illustrations and maps are great, and their recommendations for places to eat, lodging and campgrounds is extremely valuable. I read these guides from cover to cover because I always learn new things about these places, even though I have been to them many times, both for pleasure and business (I am a nature photographer). Keep up the good work!Product details

Compass American Guides Yosemite Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks Fullcolor Travel Guide Sara Benson Books Reviews
Compass American Guides Yosemite & Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks, 1st Edition (Full-color Travel Guide)
Even if you are somewhat familiar with these National Parks this is still a good guide to enlighten you. There is much to explore at Yosemite other than the valley floor. The text is good as are the pictures in the book. If you have never visited any of this area or these parks I would recommend you have this book before going so you have some idea of what you want to see.
I love guidebooks. But I'm also a lover of new technology. I'm increasingly looking to the internet and other online, non-print resources for my trip-planning information.
However, I recently picked up this guidebook and IT IS WHY GUIDEBOOKS WILL NEVER DIE in my opinion! No online experience or online guide can provide the satisfaction this book provides. It's truly an "experience."
My family and I are contemplating a return trip to Yosemite, and this guidebook has been a tremendous resource in our trip-planning. What sets it apart from most, if not all, other guidebooks I've used in the past is that it has extensive information that is presented in easy-to-read format. This alone is not that unique, I realize, but the breadth of the information and the voice it's conveyed in make it special.
It's obvious that author Sara Benson has extensive first-hand experience and knowledge of Yosemite National Park and neighboring regions. That is worth a lot to me while planning a trip to the Yosemite region, and Benson's experience/knowledge are felt when perusing this guidebook. It results in a feeling of trustworthiness as we consider what we'll do, where we'll stay, which regions we'll include, etc., as we plan our return trip.
Another thing that definitely makes this guidebook a major keeper are the pages and pages of stunning photos. You can't get this type of experience online. To be able to hold all of this information, complete with photos and quick references, top picks, etc. in my hands is a treat. Our family can all enjoy the wonders of Yosemite in the pages as we share space on a sofa and plan out our upcoming Yosemite trip.
This is a terrific guidebook for people considering or planning a trip to the Yosemite National Park and Sierra Nevada regions!
There are currently no comprehensive guides to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
This book has numerous flaws in it
- it is too short
- the maps are too small
- accommodations are not well covered.
- virtually every aspect is glossed over.
The author starts the book out with the ridiculous statement that Sequoia can be seen in a day.
It sounds like she has never visited this park.
Great photos, great overview of three wonderful national parks. I know Yosemite fairly well, and the author does a good job of covering the basics, explaining and making it appeal. The Sierras are a gorgeous place. I've got a deep love for them. I read John Muir's My First Summer in the Sierra right before reading this, and it helped give me a recent sense of wonder for the whole thing, for what the Sierras have outside of tourism.
Useless except some nice pictures. Get lonely planet and the national geographic map, I used it to plan multiple backpacking trips.
They did it again. I have the Yellostone & Grand Teton Compass guide, and this one is every bit as good. I hope they keep producing these guides for all our national parks.
